The Institute for Positive Living seeks to improve the quality of life by addressing the socioeconomic needs of families in and around Chicago's Grand Boulevard community.
Since 1999, the Institute for Positive Living (IPL) has successfully improved the educational, social, and economic wellness of low-income families in Chicago. IPL's arts, literacy, and community service programs have improved the outcomes for over 3,000 at-risk youth and families. We believe in the power of the written word and that reading is a tool not only for personal growth but for connecting to the larger world. We are committed to giving the next generation the support they need in order to succeed as the leaders of tomorrow.

Our Programs and Services
Empowering Young People to Be a Better Version of Themselves
Teen Reach
The Institute for Positive Living partners with the Illinois Department of Human Services for program Teen REACH (Teen Responsibility, Education, Achievement, Caring and Hope). The program offers extensive educational, recreational and enrichment activities to students ages 11 through 17, with a focus on life skills development, anger management and increased conflict resolution abilities. Teen REACH supports and enhances school curriculum, improves student achievement and expands the cultural base of young people through innovative, quality programming.
Open Book
The Open Book program at the Institute of Positive Living helps students become powerful readers, writers, and thinkers. The program increases student literacy by integrating reading and performing arts activities. Youth ages 7-14 create shorts skits and films that constructively critique the messages inspired by books.
Chicago Youth Employment Program
In partnership with Chicago Area Project, the Institute for Positive Living empowers youth to reach their fullest potential through workforce development programming. CYEP is designed to provide students with all the tools they need to be great leaders tomorrow. Additionally, IPL provides year-round career development services such as resume writing and job search assistance.
Technology Center
At the Institute for Positive Living, we strive to empower the Lawless Gardens community through free computer access and printing services. Our technology center provides community residents with access to information technology and the training to use it.
