Online Resouces and Activities for Learning at Home

Even while not in the classroom, you can encourage your child to learn every day with some of these fun activities and games. Here is a list of educational activities you and your child can enjoy, as well as resources to help with homework.

Homework Help:

  • Khan Academy - Detailed articles and videos to help understand key subjects for any grade.

  • Cool Math - Explanations that are easy to grasp on topics like algebra, pre-calculus and more.

  • Fact Monster - A broad range of content includes an encyclopedia, dictionary, thesaurus, atlas, a homework center, and educational games.

  • Great Minds - Tip sheets for parents to help kids with Common Core Math and English.

Websites:

  • Cool Math Games - Online browser games that teach math skills while having fun!

  • Starfall - Fun games to help kids, Pre-K through 3rd Grade, boost their reading and writing skills.

  • Sesame Street - In response to the unprecedented uncertainty facing young children and families, Sesame Workshop's Caring for Each Other initiative marks the beginning of a commitment to support families throughout the COVID-19 health crisis with a broad variety of free resources.”

  • Wide Open School - Wide Open School is a free collection of the best online learning experiences for kids curated by the editors at Common Sense.

  • Wonderopolis - A site with 2,000+ intriguing questions answered in fun, easy to understand ways, for you and your child to explore together! Answering questions like: Why do skunks stink? Why is the ocean blue? What is the metric system? How does a submarine see above water? And so many more!

  • Exploratorium: The Museum of Science, Art and Human Perception, San Francisco | Exploratorium - The Exploratorium is a public learning laboratory exploring the world through science, art, and human perception. They create tools and experiences that help you to become an active explorer: hundreds of explore-for-yourself exhibits, a website with over 35,000 pages of content, film screenings, evening art and science events for adults, plus much more.

  • Scholastic - From games and activities for students to lesson ideas and reading challenges. Fun for Pre-K through 8th grade!

  • Fun Brain - Play games, watch videos, and read all sorts of books! All sorts of activities for kids Pre-K through 8th grade.

  • BrainPop - Library of videos with their own additional activities, helping kids understand difficult topics. From english and math, to arts and health.

YouTube Channels:

  • Learn@Home with YouTube - YouTube has collaborated with many different educational creators to compile many different interesting and fun resources and activities for kids of all ages.

  • Crash Course and Crash Course Kids - Collection of animated online lessons about a wide variety of topics, including: World and US History, Philosophy, Literature, Economics, Science, and so many more!

  • Houston Zoo - The YouTube channel for Houston, Texas’s zoo. Zookeepers post videos informing about the animals in their care.

  • TED Education - Short animated videos covering a variety of topics; from riddles and stories, to history lessons and the answers to some of life’s questions.
